So you’ve finally managed to find the perfect car shipping company, you’ve cleaned your car, bought the insurance, had the inspection done, and finally sent your car off on its own cross-country adventure. The most stressful part is over (or it should be, at least, if you’ve sent your car off with a dependable car company) but you aren’t quite done yet.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when you’re getting ready to pick up your car:
- Make sure you know exactly when your car is being delivered, and where it’s being delivered. Sounds like a simple thing to remember, but you’d be surprised by how many people manage to forget to pick up their cars. Some car transport companies do home deliveries, but it’s best not to make this assumption every time.
- Also somewhat related — make sure that you have all the documents needed to drive your car legally. Your driver’s license, vehicle registration, and license plates are still very necessary, and police officers probably won’t feel much sympathy if you’ve forgotten to get all of this squared away.
- As far as payments go, it’s important to understand exactly how the vehicle transport service is calculating the cost of shipping, and if you’re submitting the payment after your car has been delivered, make sure that you know exactly how much the agreed price is.
- Ideally, the car shipping service you’ve chosen will have completed an official inspection before moving your vehicle. Once it’s delivered, another inspection should also take place, so that any damages during shipment can be recorded.
- And finally, if someone else sent the car and you’re picking it up, or if you can’t pick up the car yourself and you need someone else to collect it, make sure that the shipping company knows exactly who’s supposed to be picking it up. Although it’s unlikely that a stranger will creep on your car and follow it while it’s being shipped and then try to pick it up when it’s delivered, it’s very possible that the company could refuse to let you (or your designated driver) take the car if there’s an official form stating that another person is the designated recipient.
